A city in this country just banned cricket from all parks
Bolzano in northern Italy banned cricket after a two-year-old, struck by ball, was injured
(Web Desk) – A city in northern Italy, Bolzano, has forbidden young and old from playing cricket in public places after a two-year-old was injured in one incident.
Immigrants from Afghanistan and Pakistan, who live in small communities, used to play cricket in parks in their leisure time in the Italian city. One day, a two-year-old boy was struck by the cricket ball. He was on the balcony of his home, about 100m away from the playing kids. Thee ball injured him and he was given medical treatment as he fell into concussion.
The boy ultimately recovered from the accident, however, his parents sent an email to the city mayor Renzo Caramaschi who immediately banned the game from all public parks in his city. The mayor has also directed authorities at tennis courts and baseball fields to restrict cricketers from playing the game in their territory, according to BBC.
In 2009, another northern Italian city Brescia had placed a similar ban on cricket from public spaces. As many as a thousand Pakistanis live in Bolzano with over 300 Afghan immigrants. Moreover, the number is higher when all Pakistanis and Afghans in northern Italy are taken into consideration. Mayor Caramaschi of Bolzano is currently not linked with any anti-immigrant group. He supports representation of Pakistani and Afghan immigrants in his city.
