Sodhi, Southee reduce Pakistan A to 215-9

New Zealand restricted Pakistan A to 215-9 on the first day of three-day warm-up match on Monday.
SHARJAH (AP) - New Zealand leg spinner Ish Sodhi took four wickets and fast bowler Tim Southee struck late with successive deliveries to reduce Pakistan A to 215-9 on the first day of a three-day warm-up match on Monday.
Pakistan A, which won the toss and elected to bat, lost three wickets without a run in a dramatic eight balls before stumps.
Southee (3-20) had Adil Amin (43) and Adnan Akmal caught behind in the penultimate over of the day before Anwar Ali drove hard at Sodhi and was caught at mid-on in the final over.
Opening batsman Shan Masood top-scored with a fighting 67 off 173 balls, hitting seven fours before he tried an expansive sweep off Sodhi, but left a gap between bat and pad, and was bowled.
New Zealand s spinners had lengthy workouts and gained some feel for slow wickets in the United Arab Emirates ahead of Sunday s first test against Pakistan. Sodhi claimed 4-58 in 20.3 overs and offspinner Mark Craig finished the day with 1-68 from 26 overs.
Haris Sohail, a century maker against Australia in last month s warm-up, scored only seven from 31 balls before he drove to gully off Trent Boult as the Pakistan A batsmen struggled to build partnerships.
Scores:
Pakistan A 1st Innings: 215-9 (Shan Masood 67, Adil Amin 43; Ish Sodhi 4-58, Tim Southee 3-20).
