MPCC, Shiv Sena oppose Indo-Pak cricket series

The opposition and the ruling parties in Maharashtra united to oppose India-Pakistan cricket series.

The Maharashtra unit of Congress and its opposition party Shiv Sena took the lead in opposing the proposed bilateral series, which was suspended in the wake of 26/11 Mumbai carnage carried out by Pakistan-based terror organisations in 2008.Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Manikrao Thackeray said the thinking of the Board of Control for Cricket of India (BCCI) and that of the people of the country did not match. He said the BCCI should take peopleâs feelings into consideration while making such decisions involving Pakistan.Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam went a step ahead saying the party was firm on its old stand on playing with Pakistan.We are against playing cricket with Pakistan till it continues to support terrorism. It is a sin to play cricket with Pakistan, Kadam said.Samajwadi Partys Maharashtra unit also toed the same line.Pakistan is a culprit (in terror attacks) in Mumbai. How can we have sporting relations with them? said its MLA Abu Azmi.
