ISLAMABAD (APP) – Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar directed the Energy Ministry on Wednesday to formulate an effective and durable strategy to reduce the circular debt impacting the energy sector.

While presiding over a meeting to discuss a strategy for reducing the circular debt in the energy sector, the prime minister emphasised that all stakeholders must collectively contribute to reducing the circular debt.

He told the meeting participants that shortly after the caretaker government took office, measures were implemented for economic revival and continuous efforts were being made to reduce the circular debt.

PM Kakar noted that the operation against power theft had resulted in an enhanced recovery of dues by power distribution companies.

The meeting received a briefing on the current situation of circular debt in the petroleum and energy sectors, and various proposals were presented in this regard.

Federal ministers Dr Shamshad Akhtar and Muhammad Ali along with relevant senior officers attended the meeting.
