Party leaders call the verdict a turning point; claim vindication of truth and justice
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have welcomed the Supreme Court decision in favour of jailed party chairman Imran Khan, declaring it a clear sign that the May 9 case was built on a false narrative.
Speaking at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad, senior PTI lawyer Salman Akram Raja said the verdict marks a major milestone and strengthens hopes for justice.
“This decision proves we stood firm. Our judiciary can be independent. Today is a turning point,” Raja stated. He further emphasised that any decision against the party would be challenged in higher courts and reiterated that public opinion has shifted, recognising the May 9 case as baseless.
Citing developments in Sargodha, where witness testimonies were dismissed, Raja said those who "stole the election" should be the ones apologizing—not PTI. “They are now trapped in their own lies,” he added.

Regarding future political plans, Raja said key PTI leaders like Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and Ahmad Bhachar would return to the forefront, and the party’s legal struggle would persist. He mentioned that if needed, figures like Mehmood Achakzai could be considered for leadership roles, but the immediate focus is securing relief for imprisoned leaders.
Senior lawyer Latif Khosa called the decision a “long-awaited breath of fresh air” and declared it a step toward restoring constitutional supremacy. He criticised the basis of the May 9 case, stating that it hinges on the testimony of just two police officials. “Only one case can proceed on that basis—not multiple,” he argued.
Khosa further noted that former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, imprisoned for two years, should soon be released. He also defended Khan in the Al-Qadir University case, stating there was no personal gain for him and that key funds were rightfully returned to the national treasury under the guidance of Justice Qazi Faez Isa.
On a somber note, Khosa expressed sorrow over recent incidents involving citizens in Karachi and promised robust relief efforts for flood victims in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
PTI leader Aamir Dogar called the day a victory for PTI. Thanking the Supreme Court judge for acknowledging the facts, he said the ruling sends a strong message to those who created what he described as a “false narrative” around May 9. He affirmed that the party remains united and will continue its constitutional struggle. “We stand with our leaders and will take any steps Imran Khan deems necessary regarding opposition roles in parliament,” Dogar said.
