MOSCOW (Shahid Ghuman) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that relations between Russia and China have reached an unprecedented level, adding that both countries stand firmly together in safeguarding each other’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and core national interests.
In a video message ahead of his visit to China, President Putin said he was once again travelling to Beijing at the invitation of his “longtime and close friend,” President Xi Jinping.
He said high-level meetings and continued communication between Russia and China were essential for further strengthening bilateral relations and unlocking their “limitless potential.”
Putin noted that 25 years had passed since the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between the two countries, which laid the foundation for a genuine strategic partnership.
“Today, relations between Russia and China have truly reached an extraordinary level,” he said.
The Russian president said the defining features of ties between the two countries were mutual trust, respect, equal cooperation and support for each other’s core interests, including the protection of sovereignty and national unity.
Putin said he highly valued President Xi’s long-term commitment to cooperation with Russia.
He added that Russia deeply respected China’s centuries-old history, culture, arts and scientific progress, while both nations were interested in further strengthening people-to-people ties, cultural exchanges and mutual understanding.
According to Putin, Moscow and Beijing were steadily expanding cooperation in politics, economy, defence, humanitarian affairs and public exchanges.
He said both countries were jointly pursuing initiatives aimed at deepening bilateral relations and strengthening the development of both states.
The Russian president also stressed that the warm and friendly ties between Moscow and Beijing enabled both countries to set ambitious goals and successfully implement them.
Speaking about economic cooperation, Putin said bilateral trade between Russia and China had exceeded $200 billion.
He added that both countries had almost completely shifted to using the ruble and yuan in mutual trade transactions.
Putin also welcomed the visa-free regime between Russia and China, saying it would further boost tourism, business ties and people-to-people contacts.
