NEW DELHI (Web Desk) - A pregnant woman serving as a commando was killed in a horrific incident of domestic violence in India’s capital, New Delhi.
According to Indian media reports, Delhi Police said the victim, 27-year-old Kajal Chaudhary, was a trained Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) commando and four months pregnant at the time of her death.
Kajal was married in 2023 to a man identified as Ankur, and the couple had a one-and-a-half-year-old son.
Police said she was allegedly assaulted by her husband during a domestic dispute, during which he struck her on the head with a heavy exercise dumbbell.
The blow caused severe head injuries and heavy bleeding, which led to her death. She was rushed to hospital, where doctors confirmed her death.
Police described the case as tragic, stating that an educated husband allegedly killed a disciplined commando who was committed to serving the nation, reportedly over disputes related to dowry.
Kajal’s brother, Nikhil, a constable posted at Parliament Street Police Station, told investigators that his sister had called him on the day of the incident.
He said that while they were speaking on the phone, Ankur attacked Kajal with the dumbbell.
Nikhil also alleged that Kajal’s mother-in-law and two sisters-in-law had been repeatedly harassing her over dowry demands.
He further claimed that Ankur had taken a large sum of money from Kajal’s parents.
Police have registered a murder case against Ankur and arrested him. He is currently in judicial custody. Ankur was employed as a clerk at India’s Ministry of Defence.
Kajal Chaudhary had joined the Delhi Police in 2022 and, through promotions, was later selected as a commando in the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.
