LAHORE (Web Desk) – Indian former police official has said that part of funding for 9/11 terror plot came from India, Times of India reported Tuesday.

Neeraj Kumar, former Delhi police commissioner claimed that a terrorist “revealed” the information during interrogation. He said that India released a militant, Omar Sheikh in exchange of hijacked plane in 1999 who had links with 9/11 attackers.

Kumar said that funds were raised through a kidnapping and were handed over to the militants behind US terror plot.

The former law enforcer said that he had obtained the information from a terrorist named Asif Raza Khan belonging to Harkatul Mujahideen. Khan told him that an operative named Aftab Ansari handed over the money to Omar Sheikh who later delivered the funds to US attackers, he added.

The former Indian capital commissioner said that Khan used to work for Ansari. He said that Ansari is awaiting execution in a West Bengal jail for attack on American Centre in Kolkata.

Kumar now serves as consultant to Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) anti-corruption unit (ACU).
