Mural symbolizes new hope and renewal, said the author of a sketch Valeriy Korshunov.

UKRAINE (Reuters) - Chernobyl power plant took on a fresh, brighter look, a "Look in the future", as the author called his mural, painted on one of the buildings.

A 18 by 58-meter painting - showing a herd of wild horses galloping on a green plain with a black hand in front holding an atom - symbolizes new hope and renewal, said the author of a sketch Valeriy Korshunov.

"We must be stronger, we must fill Chernobyl with new meanings every day, bring culture, technologies, and bring Chernobyl back to normal life," the artist said.

The plant posted a statement on its website, saying the main objective of the mural was to cheer up its workers, whose offices now face the painting instead of a blank wall. 59 percent of the personnel liked the result - the statement added.
