19 cows killed by single lightning strike in Texas
The dead animals were quickly removed from the field and were given to people for meat.
(Web Desk) - Two days after more than 300 wild reindeer were killed by a lighting strike in central Norway, at least 19 cows were reportedly killed by a single lightning strike in Texas on Sunday night, the Daily Mail reported.
The cows had gathered under a large tree to take shelter from the storm when lightning struck the tree in Hallsville, Texas.
Their owner, Ashley Anderson, said she and her husband had never seen anything like it, and called it a freak incident.
“It’s not something you see every day. Just kind of surreal to see it,” she told WSFA news.
“It’s just a freak thing; I mean they were just staying out of the rain,” she added.
“There’s really, to my knowledge, nothing you can do to prevent this.”
The dead animals were reportedly given away to neighbors for use as meat.
Earlier on Friday night, a freak lightning storm has killed 323 reindeer in a remote mountainous area of Norway.
Dead animals were found lying on top of each other, many with their antlers entangled, after the thunderstorm on the Hardanger plateau in southern Norway on Friday.
Reindeer tend to group together when in danger. It was unclear whether the herd had been killed by a single lightning bolt or several.
