PTA to announce PUBG's fate in Pakistan on July 10

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has reserved its decision on lifting the ban on PUBG after holding a public hearing. The decision will be announced on Friday, July 10.

A five-member board of PTA, including the Director General of Web Analysis Division and the Director General of Law, heard arguments from different parties on the pros and cons of banning PUBG during the public hearing of the case.

A lawyer of the company behind the game, PUBG Corporation, also attended the hearing. PTA has directed all parties to provide written arguments by noon on July 10.

It is important to note that the PUBG World League is starting from July 10 and if the ban is not lifted, Pakistani gamers will be deprived from taking part in the competition.

It may be recalled that PTA had announced a temporary ban on the video game in light of multiple public complaints. The agency said in a statement that the move was prompted by complaints from various sections of society.

It said that complainants were of the view that the game was having a negative impact on the physical and mental health of children, while media reports have also attributed certain suicide cases to PUBG as well.
