Rajanpur district administration disbursed just 50 sacks of flour for around 30,000 flood affectees, while police resorted to highhandedness to disperse the protesters, Dunya News reported on Tuesday. The police thrashed aid demanding women and children too. The locals complained that they received just 80 tents against thousands who have been rendered homeless due to torrential rains. The affectees added that the DCO distributed the flour sacks for photo session only. It merits to mention that the flood-hit areas of Rajanpur were left disconnected from rest of the country since seven days after torrential rains and floods cut off all the land routs. Several people stranded as floodwaters still accumulated in towns and villages. DG Relief Riawan Baig said that at least 700 to 800 people are still stranded in floodwaters and 15,000 families became homeless. He said Kharif crops cultivated at 17,000 acres have been destroyed, however, relief activities from government of Punjab underway. A committee is also constituted for the assessment of the losses.
