Crisis worsens as gas for Punjab industries shut for 9 days

The gas supply to industrial sector of Punjab will be suspended for nine days.

According to a notification issued by SNGPL, due to annual maintenance at Qadir Pur Gas Field, gas shortfall has increased by 400MMCF. Therefore, the gas load shedding schedule for all the sectors of Punjab has been suspended and now gas supply to every sector will remain suspended for three weeks.According to the notification, supply to industries of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal regions will be suspended from August 29 to September 6.Gas supply to Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala and Bahawalpur industries will be suspended from September 6 to 9 .In second phase, industrial sector of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal regions will face gas suspension from 11 to 13 Sept, while Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala and Bahawalpur will face gas closure from 14 to 17 Sept.Gas supply to all fertilizers factories of the Punjab will be suspended from Aug 27 to Sep 16.Power plants in Lahore will also face gas closure from Aug 29 to Sep 17, which will cause worst electricity crisis.It is pertinent to mention here that trade unions have rejected the gas suspension for a week but the government has increased its duration for 9 days instead of 7.
