Pakistan can play constructive role in forming new Afghan government: Karim Khalili

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Former Afghan Vice President and head of Hizb-e-Wahdat-e-Islami Karim Khalili has said that the point of view of Pakistan s leadership is positive, adding that Islamabad can play a constructive role in forming and negotiating a new Afghan government.

Speaking on Dunya News program, “Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Sath”, Karim Khalili hoped that countries in the region will play a positive role amid current Afghan situation instead of negative one.

Former Afghan president said that he was happy to visit Pakistan at a critical juncture in Afghanistan. He said that he had a comprehensive discussion with Prime Minister Imran Khan and Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on the current situation in Afghanistan.

He said that he has a relationship of mutual respect with Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Haibatullah.

He further said that former president Ashraf Ghani was not part of the government but was in the opposition adding that the Afghan administration lacked leadership, and much of Afghanistan went to the Taliban without resistance.

Karim Khalili said that Ashraf Ghani was not a qualified leader. The former president was immersed in corruption and failed on every front, terming Ashraf Ghani the most infamous president in the history of Afghanistan.

Khalili said that the advance of the Taliban was a matter of concern for all. Ethnic groups in Afghanistan are worried and anxious.

He hoped that the Taliban have learned a lesson from the past. The Taliban spokesman s press conference was positive. Coalition government is the desire of the entire Afghan nation. A government formed by a single group will not work, he added.

He said that Afghan people have made many sacrifices, if a government of one ethnic group is formed, there will be more crises.

“Taliban will have to live up to their promises”, he said, hoping that the international community will continue to cooperate with the Afghan people in the future.
