Its US responsibility to persuade Ashraf Ghani for political reconciliation: Moeed Yusuf

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - National Security Adviser (NSA) Dr Moeed Yusuf has sent a clear message that it is the responsibility of the United States (US) to persuade Afghan President Ashraf Ghani for political reconciliation but they have shown no sign in this regard.

The National Security Advisor questioned why the Afghan president was not getting the message from the United States that he was destroying his country by not resolving the issue.

Moeed Yusuf stressed that no one other than the United States could persuade President Ashraf Ghani for talks for political reconciliation but no progress was being made.

Talking about the changing situation in Afghanistan and the dangers associated with it in Dunya News program "Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Sath", Dr Moeed Yusuf said that peace in Afghanistan is essential for Pakistan and it has its own interests and peace is the right of Afghans.

"Faster the situation in Afghanistan changes, the faster we have to make a decision," he said adding we don t have much time.

Moeed said that Afghan forces will have to sit together and find a political solution. If this does not happen then we are witnessing a war which will be to the detriment of the whole of Pakistan. If the matter is not settled, things will get worse, he added.

NSA said that the United States cannot afford to give up its leadership politically, it is its responsibility to bring everyone together. On the one hand, this signal is coming from the United States that no one is more important than Pakistan, while on the other hand, it does not seems so in practical.

He said that the withdrawal from Afghanistan was not a decision of Pakistan but of the United States adding, now more important is how we move forward.

"We have openly stated our position to the United States," he said. Pakistan s policy is clear, we want peace in the region. The process of political reconciliation must move forward immediately. No country in the region other than India wants the Afghan conflict to continue, he added.
