First heavy spell of monsoon begins ahead of Eidul Azha in Lahore

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The first heavy spell of the monsoon has been started ahead of Eidul Azha in Lahore on Tuesday as the incessant rain continues in different part of the provincial capital.

According to the reports, the rain provided immediate relief against the hot weather in Lahore and other Punjab cities. It rained in parts of the city in the early hours of morning and continued afternoon heavily in the city.

The maximum rainfall of 99mm was recorded in Farrukhabad, while 40.6mm of rain on Jail Road, 44mm at Airport and 46.5mm in Gulberg were recorded.

However, 86mm rain in Lakshmi Chowk, 53mm in Upper Mall and 53mm in Mughalpura as well as 59mm in Tajpura was recorded.

The data shows that Nishtar Town received 97mm rainfall, Chowk Nakhoda 60mm, Pani Wala Talab 97mm, Gulshan-e-Ravi 68mm, Iqbal Town 58mm, Samanabad 73mm, Johar Town 86.3mm and Punjab University 60mm.

Meanwhile, heavy rain has disrupted the Lahore Electric Supply Company’s (LESCO) transmission system in different parts of the city.

More than 130 LESCO feeders have tripped due to rain in Lahore on Tuesday. Many areas in the city are facing power outage due to feeders tripping and other technical faults.

Due to prolonged power outage in Lahore, citizens are facing severe problems. Power outages in Allama Iqbal Town, Mustafaabad, Shafiqabad, Sherkot, Green Town, Shadipura, Baden Road, Dholnawal, Chauburji Park, Faizpur, Ali Park, and Data Nagar have disrupted the daily routine of citizens.

Amin Park, Bilal Colony, Ichhra, Mominpura, Shahdara, Karim Park, Begum Kot, and several areas of Kot Mohammadi, Bilalganj are also facing power outage.

Earlier today, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar has ordered Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) and the provincial management to remain on high alert due to rain in Lahore and other parts of the Punjab.

As per the directives issued by the Punjab CM, WASA and provincial authorities have been directed to take immediate steps for drainage of water from low lying areas.

Drainage through machinery should be ensured in minimum time possible, said Usman Buzdar adding that effective measures should be taken to ensure smooth flow of traffic during rain.
