ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan considers holding intra-Afghan talks as a rare opportunity for lasting peace in Afghanistan stressing that the success of intra-Afghan dialogue is essential for peace and stability in the region.
According to details, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had a telephone conversation with his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Hanif Atmar in which issues of mutual interest including bilateral relations and Afghan peace process were discussed.
The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan has always wanted a peaceful, comprehensive and lasting solution to the Afghan problems. Pakistan played a conciliatory role under the joint responsibility for the peace agreement between the United States and the Taliban.
The Foreign Minister also raised with his Afghan counterpart the issue of early release of Pakistanis imprisoned in Afghanistan for minor crimes. The two Foreign Ministers agreed to continue consultations for peace and stability in the region, including the Afghan peace process.
