COVID-19 outbreak: More areas in Lahore, Gujranwala put on smart lockdown

17 localities in Lahore and three areas in Gujranwala have been sealed.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The concerned authorities on Monday have imposed smart lockdown in more areas of Lahore and Gujranwala till January 29  in order to control the second wave of deadly coronavirus.

According to the notification, 17 localities in Lahore and three areas in Gujranwala have been sealed to prevent the increasing cases of COVID-19.

All markets, shopping malls, restaurants, offices shall remain closed in the affected areas while there shall be a ban on movement of people to and from these areas by public and private transport except limited movement of one person per vehicle to and from the exempted facilities, it read.

The notification further stated that there shall also be a complete ban on gatherings of all kinds for social, religious or any other purpose at any place, public or private throughout these areas.

Grocery stores and pharmacies are allowed to be opened.

The decision came after Pakistan reported 46 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 521,211. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 10,997 on Monday.

According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 1,920 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic in terms of cases followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad.

Till now 235,576 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 149,782 in Punjab 63,615 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 40,111 in Islamabad, 18,612 in Balochistan, 8,631 in Azad Kashmir and 4,884 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Furthermore, 4,432 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 3,793 in Sindh, 1,783 in KP, 457 in Islamabad, 241 in Azad Kashmir, 190 in Balochistan, and 101 in GB.

Pakistan has so far conducted 7,405,571 coronavirus tests and 37,949 in the last 24 hours. 475,228 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 2,348 patients are in critical condition.
