Indian conspiracy to defame Pakistan through fake news uncovered

NEW DELHI (Dunya News) - It has been revealed that India has been running multiple fake news campaigns to discredit Pakistan in front of the European Union and the United Nations.

The EU DisinfoLab, an independent EU-focused NGO with the mission of raising awareness on disinformation, has released a report that makes startling revelations about India misleading the European Union and the United Nations for the past 15 years, using 750 local media outlets and more than 10 fake NGOs to spread fake news.

The report said that the purpose of this Indian misinformation was to discredit Pakistan in front of the world. India presented the former President of the European Parliament as the head of a fake NGO and made allegations against Pakistan in the Human Rights Council with the help of NGOs.

According to the EU DisinfoLab report, the name of a British minister was illegally used to protect Indian interests and 550 websites were set up to spread fake news. India has been involved in this malicious campaign since 2005.

The report further stated that fake human rights organizations were funded against Pakistan and fake media houses were set up in Geneva, Brussels and other cities of the world to portray Pakistan in a negative light.

The NGO – EU DisinfoLab focuses on researching and tackling sophisticated disinformation campaigns targeting the EU, its member states, core institutions, and core values.

The study, of the 15-year influence operation, was conducted through open-source investigation shows that the operation led by the Srivastava Group was amplified by Indian news media outlet – Asian News International – ANI. It began in 2005 and was still ongoing at this date.

Other long-term objectives included reinforcement of pro-Indian and anti-Pakistan, and anti-Chinese, feelings, within India. While internationally, to consolidate the power and improve perception of India, to damage reputation of other countries and ultimately benefit from more support from international institutions such as the EU and the UN.

To achieve this objective the operation focussed on the support to minority and human rights NGOs and think-tanks, use of Members of the European Parliament to create a mirage of institutional support from European institutions to these minority groups, in favour of Indian interests and against Pakistan and China.
