Lahore's markets, marriage halls, restaurants at center of covid-19 resurgence

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Markets, marriage halls and restaurants in the provincial capital Lahore are at the center of rising coronavirus cases in the city, prompting local administration to take tough decisions in response.

Even in Islamabad, micro-smart lockdown will be implemented in several sectors of the city after 88 new cases were reported in one day. These sectors will be sealed off from Sunday morning.

Deputy Commissioner Lahore Mudassir Riaz said that in the initial phase, schools, colleges, universities, restaurants and wedding halls which do not implement coronavirus SOPs would be sealed for 15 days. The option of smart lockdown will also be used in areas where SOPs are ignored, he added.

The DC said that 686 people contracted and 4 fell victim to the virus in the last 14 days. In view of the rise in cases, local administration will operate more strictly across the city. He urged citizens to ensure use of masks, sanitizers and keep social distancing.

On Friday, district administration Lahore started sealing of wedding halls and bakeries. Special teams have been formed to implement coronavirus SOPs in all tehsils of the city and Assistant Commissioners will take action against violators in their respective tehsils starting tonight .
