Afghans must decide their own future: FM Qureshi
The Foreign Minister said Pakistan will continue its efforts for durable peace in Afghanistan.
DOHA (Dunya News) – Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan’s hard work and sacrifices paid off and now Afghans must decide their own future.
Talking to a private TV channel, the Foreign Minister said the peace agreement carried immense significance both in symbolism and substance for Afghanistan, the region and beyond.
Foreign Minister also said that peace agreement between United States and Taliban was hindered repeatedly as some forces including India tried their best to derail the peace process, but world appreciates Pakistan’s efforts for durable peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that India tried to push Pakistan into the blacklist of Financial Action Task Force (FATF) but failed.
Redrawing the international community s attention to Afghan refugees in Pakistan, the Foreign Minister underscored the need to assist the Afghan government in creating an enabling environment for the return of the refugees to their homeland with dignity and honour.
Earlier, US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad called on Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in Doha on Saturday.
Zalmay Khalilzad apprised the Foreign Minister of the latest situation regarding peace agreement between the United States and the Afghan Taliban.
Speaking on the occasion, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Pakistan hopes for intra-Afghan dialogue after today’s deal. He said Afghanistan will be required assistance of the international community for reconciliation and rehabilitation.
The Foreign Minister said Pakistan will continue its efforts for durable peace and stability in Afghanistan.
