Govt team fails to satisfy MQM-P over reservations
Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that their problems are more important than joining the cabinet
KARACHI (Dunya News) - The government team on Saturday failed to persuade its coalition ally, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), after it offered the party to rejoin the Cabinet once again.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) placed four demands after the federal government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) invited its coalition partner to join the Cabinet once again.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) delegation arrived at Bahadurabad at MQM headquarters under the leadership of PTI senior leader Jahangir Khan Tareen, accompanied by Federal Defense Minister Pervez Khattak, MPA Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Federal Minister Asad Umar, Khurram Sher Zaman and Haleem Adil Sheikh.
MQM delegation was led by Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui while Aamir Khan, Kanwar Naveed Jameel, Faisal Subzwari, Aminul Haq, Nasreen Jalil and Muhammad Hussain were also present.
MQM placed four important demands in front of the government delegation, the demands include setting up of a university in Hyderabad, development budget for Hyderabad, implementation of a package of Rs162 billion for Karachi and opening of MQM s closed offices.
During the meeting, PTI senior leader Jahangir Tareen invited MQM Pakistan to join the cabinet again and said that MQM’s issues are important but not all things can be resolved at once.
Adressing a press conference after the meeting, Pervez Khattak said that there are some misunderstandings between the allies and government will fulfill the promises made to coalition partners. He thanked MQM for hearing their point of view and expressed hope that Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui will rejoin the cabinet.
He said that government made tough decisions because economy was deteriorating. The effects of these steps will be revealed to the public soon.
Federal Minister for Defense said that they have not made false promises and have been with MQM for a year and a half and will continue to do so.
He further added that the misunderstandings that were spreading would end, PML-Q, GDA and other allies are with the government. He said that the next meeting will be held in Islamabad to discuss issues of missing Persons, opening of offices and MQM’s reservations.
MQM leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that before joining the federal government, they presented their demands and gave unconditional support to the government.
He said that during the meeting, the government delegation was informed about the problems of Sindh. He added that nation was betrayed through 18th amendment.
During the press conference, senior PTI leader Jahangir Khan Tareen said that 0.4 million tonnes of wheat was given to the province two months ago and federal government will give 0.3 million tonnes of wheat to Sindh province. The matter will be resolved soon and price of flour will soon be reduced.

Earlier, a government delegation led by Jahangir Tareen met Governor Sindh Imran Ismail in which different issues were discussed in detail.
On the occasion, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail said that resources will be used to improve the quality of life of the people and lauded federal government’s support for the development of the province.
