Opposition demands apology from PM Imran for calling Bilawal 'Sahiba'
They termed PM Imrans statement not just an insult to PPP or Bilawal, but also an insult to women
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Following Prime Minister Imran Khan s description of his political opponent, Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) chairman Bilwal Bhutto Zardari as ‘Sahiba’ (madam), opposition parties on Thursday demanded the prime minister to tender an apology in the Lower House of the Parliament.
Soon after the National Assembly session commenced its proceedings, the leaders of the opposition parties lashed out at the prime minister over his remarks.
They termed PM Imran’s statement not just an insult to PPP or Bilawal, but also an insult to women.
The members of the opposition parties while rejecting the explanation of the treasury benches and surrounded the speaker’s dais.
PPP Information Secretary Nafisa Shah condemned what she claimed were misogynistic remarks made by the premier. “This humiliation, misogyny and hatred is not against the PPP or Bilawal," she said. "This is a reflection of misogynistic thinking."
She called it ‘an insult to the women and cultural values of Pakistan’ by humiliating Bilawal by ascribing feminine qualities to him in an insulting manner. "This respect is a part of our core values, and I ask those from the tribal areas: Is it not in your core values that you respect women?"
She said the premier to apologise for his remarks against Bilawal or otherwise, they would be forced to disregard him as the prime minister. “Slogans of Go Imran Go will be chanted in the [Lower] House, otherwise,” she added.
Earlier, Khan in his latest speech in Wana, referred to his political rival and chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto as ‘Sahiba’ (madam) which stoked a huge controversy.
‘I unlike Bilawal Bhutto ‘Sahiba,’ didn’t come into power on a piece of paper (will) insinuating that the party was handed down to me by my mother as part of property.’
Referring to his political struggle, prime minister also blasted out at Pakistan Muslim League (PMLN) supremo Nawaz Sharif who was made Punjab Chief Minister by General Jillani. ‘Neither was I made the Chief Minister by General Jillani,’ he added.
Reiterating his resolve, PM Khan vowed to fight against all those getting together against him. ‘I want to tell the whole of Pakistan to have faith; I will deal with them all Inshallah.’
Khan, apparently tried to add insult to injury as he accentuated Bhutto’s privileged background. The PPP chairman was born to a family of former President Asif Ali Zardari and murdered ex-prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
