SP Dawar abduction: State minister terms viral pictures 'fake'

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – State Minister for Interior Shehryar Afridi has on Tuesday termed issue of alleged murder of Superintendent Police (SP) Tahir Khan Dawar sensitive and termed viral pictures of dead body, purportedly of Dawar, fake.

"It is a matter of national security and life of someone, and cannot be discussed on an open forum," Afridi was quoted as saying.

On October 26, SP Tahir had gone missing from Islamabad after he left his house for evening walk in Ramna neighborhood of federal capital, Islamabad. A case was lodged whereas investigation team was constituted on October 28.

The investigation team started operation for recovery of the Dawar and conducted raids in Punjab, Islamabad including other parts of the country. The hunt for Dawar was also carried out in North Waziristan, volatile border region. Officials had also conducted talks with Jirga [traditional assembly of tribal leaders].

Dawar—during his official course of stay in Bannu—had received several threats to life from miscreants.

In one of the viral picture, a note can be seen on the alleged corpse of SP Dawar stating that the banned outfit had killed Dawar in Afghanistan’s province Nangarhar.

Meanwhile, Pakistani government is in contact with Afghan officials. An official—on the condition of anonymity—told our correspondent that formal statement in this regard would be issued after proper verification.

On the other hand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IG) and departments concerned have also denied to verify the authenticity of the matter.
