PTI's Humayun Akhtar Khan blames inflation for his defeat in NA-131 by-polls
Akhtar said silent voters came out of their homes to protest rising prices.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Hamayun Akhtar Khan has put the blame of his defeat on rising prices in the country.
Speaking on Dunya News programme ‘Nuqta-e-Nazar’, Akhtar said silent voters came out of their homes to protest rising prices.
“I warned prime minister against increasing prices as this would impact the elections,” he added.
He said 32 per cent of votes were cast in the recently held by-elections, adding that few people voted “yet I managed to gain 50,000 votes despite hurdles”.
Akthtar lost to former Railways minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique on National Assembly (NA-131) Lahore constituency.
Khawaja Saad Rafique bagged 60,476 votes while Akhtar managed to get 50,456 votes on a constituency vacated by Prime Minister Imran Khan following his victory in the July 25 general election.
