Shahbaz remand rages PMLN workers - protests, anti-govt demonstrations and arrests erupt

Irked protesters chant anti-government and anti-NAB slogans against the arrest of PMLN president.

(WebDesk) – After the dramatic detention of leader of opposition and president Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz – Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif in Ashiana Housing Scandal yesterday, National Accountability Court (NAB) produced the former Chief Minister of Punjab before the accountability court.

Shehbaz Sharif was accused of inflicting millions of rupees loss on national exchequer by canceling scheme’s contract with Latif Sons and awarding it to CASA Developers. NAB prosecutor requested the court for a 15-day physical custody. AC granted NAB 10-day physical remand of Shahbaz Sharif in Ashiana Housing Scandal.

Shahbaz Sharif remand followed by his thespian arrest ahead of by-polls, fumed party workers of PMLN. A large number of enraged party workers and supporters were present around the accountability court and were chanting slogans in favor of their leadership. Due to stringent security measures and hundreds of agitated protestors, PMLN president took the other door to reach to the court.


The irked protesters chanted anti-government and anti-NAB slogans against the alleged continuous political victimization of their leadership.

Protests erupt especially in Punjab after the PMLN Supremo reaction over his brother and president PML-N surfaced. Sharif himself denies any wrongdoing, and his brother and former Premier Nawaz Sharif has also denounced corruption cases against him and other party leaders as politically motivated.

Ex-premier Nawaz Sharif was arrested 10 days before the July 25 general election, which was won by cricket star turned politician Imran Khan, who now leads the new government. He was released from prison last month pending an appeal.

The Sharifs’ Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz came in second place in the general election. Their party denounced the polls as rigged, alleging the establishment tipped the scale in favour of Prime Minister Imran Khan party.

The PML-N says that the arrest of Shehbaz Sharif was intended to weaken the party before by-elections to be held on Oct. 14.

Hundreds of enraged party workers and supporters took to the roads, burnt tyres and staged a protest after their president Shahbaz Sharif’s detention.

As many as 150 PML-N workers were booked for staging a protest in Lahore against the arrest of party’s president Shehbaz Sharif in connection with Ashiana Housing case.

According to the sources, PML-N workers were booked at Civil Lines Police Station. Police has also named sitting MNA Waheed Alam and MPA Mian Marghoob Ahmad of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz in FIR for staging protest against the detention of PMLN president.

On the other hand, Faisalabad mayor and large number of fumed protesters took to the streets to protest arrest of Sharif in the Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing Scheme scam. Faisalabad mayor stated that Sharif was being punished for serving the masses of the Punjab.
