FM Qureshi, Mike Pompeo to discuss Pak-US relations
Regional situation and bilateral relations will come under discussion in the meeting.
WASHINGTON (Web Desk) – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will hold talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Washington today (Tuesday).
Regional situation and bilateral relations will come under discussion in the meeting.
Foreign minister will also meet US National Security Adviser, John Bolton. He will also have talks with members of the US Congress and address an event of the US institute for peace.
Earlier, Qureshi told Fox News in an interview that the issue of Dr Shakil Afridi is not over.
From the outset, the situation has gone from bad to worse for Dr. Shakil Afridi, the "hero" CIA asset who helped the US capture Usama bin Laden in Pakistan by running a fake vaccination program to collect DNA but since then has languished behind bars.
"Openings are always there," Qureshi said. "He is viewed in a particular light in Pakistan, he is viewed as a traitor in Pakistan. But he is viewed as a friend in the US. So we have to bridge this gap."
