NA Speaker, Fawad Ch at odds over PAC chairmanship
Opposition has warned against complete boycott of PAC if chairmanship is not awarded.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Ruptures have emerged within echelons of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over appointment of new chairman of Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
As per details garnered, several leaders of the ruling party have tabled reservations before party’s top brass over making Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif chairman of PAC.
On the other hand, opposition has warned against complete boycott of PAC if chairmanship is not awarded to Shehbaz Sharif.
Sources privy to development revealed National Assembly (NA) Speaker Asad Qaisar favors awarding chairmanship to opposition while opining to give space to opposition for a working relationship. On the other hand, minister for information and broadcasting Fawad Ch is advocating against awarding chairmanship of PAC to Shehbaz Sharif.
Federal minister of information and broadcast Fawad Ch—while raising objection on the appointment of opposition leader—has made it overtly clear that PML-N couldn’t review audit objections raised during their tenure.
“Under charter of democracy signed between PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), opposition leader is awarded chairmanship of PAC”, revealed Fawad.
PML-N president and opposition leader in the National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif claimed PAC chairmanship is predominantly the prerogative of the opposition.
Responding to a question whether he would be the chairman of PAC, Shehbaz Sharif replied that it is custom that opposition leader enjoys PAC chairmanship. He said, “If Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) takes u-turn on it then I would avoid saying anything”.
