Make India talk and get our support, Qureshi tell US

Qureshi said Washington's priorities in the region have changed as it has made new friends.

NEW YORK (Dunya News) – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday said that the United States wants to make Pakistan a scapegoat to to hide its failures.

Addressing a ceremony in New York on Friday, he said that Washington’s priorities in the region have changed as it has made new friends.

Qureshi said that the US should convince India for peace talks if it wants Pakistan’s help, adding that New Delhi has held the South Asian countries hostage.

“We want to play a positive role in Afghanistan but Kabul is not only Pakistan’s responsibility,” he said.

Talking about negotiations with India, the foreign minister further added: "The only solution of Indo-Pak issues is negotiation but India is running away from talks."

While answering a question on the subject of Kashmir, Qureshi avowed that India is frequently violating human rights in occupied Kashmir while the situation is that Mehbobah Mufti and Omar Abdullah have now separated the ways from the Indian government.

“I am here to renew this commitment that Pakistan wants to revive its ties with the United States. We have made our policies clear.”

The foreign minister said Pakistan’s safeguarding of US interests should be recognised as Washington has always gained from its relationship with Islamabad.

“Be it the war against Soviets or 9/11, Pakistan has always stood by America’s side. America always benefitted while it had Pakistan’s backing and support,” he added.

Besides regional issues, while commenting on global relations, Qureshi added it is Islamabad s utmost desire to promote relations with other countries including US.

Talking about his government reforms, the foreign minister said tha welfare and human development is the priority of PTI-led government while Pakistani political leadership has a complete consensus on the National Action Plan.
