Arif Alvi's name under consideration for slot of Pakistan's new president: Ismail

(Dunya News) – Sindh Governor-designate Imran Ismail on Sunday revealed that name of Arif Alvi was being under consideration as successor of President Mamnoon Hussain.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader stated that he would continue to reside in his personal house while adding that officials tasks would be carried out from Governor House.

Responding to a question, Ismail vowed to follow footprints of his chieftain Imran Khan and stated that he would not take any protocol.

Ismail regretted that he couldn’t not meet delegation of Muttahida Quami Movement Pakistan due to delay in flight.

Ismail revealed that he would carry out his first visit to interior Sindh soon after taking oath while lambasting Pakistan Peoples Party for the poor condition of the masses of the province.  

Earlier yesterday, PTI formally nominated party’s supremo Imran Khan as their candidate for next Prime Minister of Pakistan.

A parliamentary meeting was held at a private hotel in Islamabad during which, Shah Mehmood Qureshi presented a resolution nominating Imran as their PM candidate after which, PTI chief was welcomed with a huge applause.


Who is Arif Alvi?


Born in 1949 and dentist by profession, Arif Alvi is among the founding members of PTI.

Alvi ran for the seat of Provincial Assembly of Sindh as a candidate of PTI from constituency PS-114 (Karachi) in Pakistani general election, 1997, however remained unsuccessful.

He ran for the seat of Provincial Assembly of Sindh in Pakistani general election, 2002 as a candidate of PTI from constituency PS-90 Karachi-II but was unsuccessful and secured only 1,276 votes.

He served as the secretary general of PTI from 2006 to 2013.

He was elected as the member of the National Assembly of Pakistan for the first time in Pakistani general election, 2013 on PTI ticket from

Constituency NA-250. Alvi was the only PTI member to win a National Assembly seat from Sindh in 2013 elections
In 2016, he was made president of PTI Sindh chapter.

He was re-elected to the National Assembly as a candidate of PTI from Constituency NA-247 (Karachi South-II) in Pakistani general election, 2018
