Islamabad accident: US diplomat released, case filed against embassy's security officer

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A US diplomat was released from police custody on Monday after he rammed his vehicle into two motorcyclists near Islamabad Secretariat.

Nazakat and Waseem received injuries when the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a jeep driven by Chad Rex Ausburn, second secretary at the Embassy of the United States of America in Islamabad.

Following the incident, the diplomat refused to step out of the vehicle. However, he stepped out and identified himself when police reached the site of incident.

However; a case has been registered against US embassy’s security officer Taimoor Pirzada. First Information Report (FIR) filed against him says that he tried to escape the driver from the crime scene.

Earlier this month, a motorcyclist in Islamabad was killed after being hit by a white SUV driven by the defence and air attaché at the US embassy Col Joseph Emanuel.

Ateeq died on the spot while his pillion passenger Raheel sustained serious injuries.
