Opposition rejects Tax Amnesty Scheme, stages walkout of Senate

Opposition declared the issuance of ordinance an insult of the Parliament.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The joint opposition members in the Senate while rejecting the Tax Amnesty Scheme Presidential Ordinance staged a walkout of the Upper House of the Parliament on Monday.

State Minister for Finance tried to explain the House on the matter but the opposition declared the issuance of ordinance an insult of the Parliament.

Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader Mian Raza Rabbani said that the President himself summoned the meetings of the Senate and National Assembly and also issued four ordinance which weren’t approved by the cabinet.

Finance Minister Rana Afzal said that the ordinance was passed through circulation to which the Leader of Opposition in Senate Sherry Rehman demanded to present the circulation documents in the House.

Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq said that the basic aim of the scheme was wrong, adding that the government wanted to bring the ill-gotten money in the country.

Following the verbal exchange, the opposition walked out of the Upper House of the Parliament.
