Islamabad summons Indian DHC to condemn ceasefire violations across LoC

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Foreign Office (FO) summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner (DHC) JP Singh to condemn the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation forces along the Line of Control (LoC) on March 1, 2018, in Kotli/Jandrot and Chirikot Sectors.

Islamabad protested against the Indian ceasefire violations where heavy automatic weapons and rockets were shot across the LoC in the Pakistani territory. The firing and use of heavy arms resulted in martyrdom of a 70-year-old innocent civilian named Muhammad Nazir, who was a resident of the Dhri village.

The LoC ceasefire violation also injured a female civilian named Shamim Akhtar. FO said, “India continues to indulge in ceasefire violations.”

Two soldiers embraced martyrdom on Wednesday after Indian forces opened unprovoked fire in Bhimber Sector at the Line of Control (LoC). Media cell of Pakistan Army reported on Indian firing’s ceasefire violation a day after Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh was summoned to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and lodged protest with over ceasefire violations at the LoC and Working Boundary.

Indian forces have carried out more than 400 ceasefire violations along the working boundary in 2018 alone, resulting in martyrdom of as many as 19 innocent civilians with 69 others injured.

“This unprecedented escalation in ceasefire violations by India is continuing from the year 2017 when the Indian forces committed 1970 ceasefire violations.

“The deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws. The ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation,” FO added.

FO urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 Ceasefire arrangement; investigate this and other incidents of ceasefire violations; instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire, in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the LoC. It also urged that the Indian side should permit UNMOGIP to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.
