LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab government protested against the arrest of Ahad Cheema, referring the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to have abused its powers.

Punjab government’s spokesperson said “NAB abused power by arresting (ex-DG of LDA) Ahad Cheema”. Malik Ahmad Khan further said the anti-graft body shouldn’t have had overused its powers.

“They should have seen whether they are harassing someone,” he added, stressing that how the government will serve the people when the machinery is being paralyzed.

He defended Cheema saying he cooperated with NAB and gave details of assets. Punjab government has formed an inquiry committee to probe NAB’s action.

On the other hand, it appears as if there are two groups of bureaucracy after Cheema’s arrest. The PMS Officers Association has refused to support the revolting officers who met against the arrest.

The civil secretariat remained closed on Friday. A petition was submitted in Lahore High Court against the strike and closure.
