Summary Opposition Leader Khurshid Shah addressed the National Assembly.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Discussing the situation arising out of President Donald Trump’s statement regarding U.S. policy in Afghanistan, Opposition Leaders Syed Khurshid Shah on Wednesday asked the government to convene a joint session of the parliament after Eid-ul-Azha to give a ‘strong response’ on remarks by the US President.

Meanwhile, Chaudhry Nisar also agreed with Shah that a joint session of the parliament should be called to discuss the response to the US policy instead of a National Assembly session.

Addressing the National Assembly, Shah stated that ‘we have lost our position due to our mistakes.’

“There is one war which is fought with weapons and the one is political war. This is our political war. We will have to see how we adjust according to the situation,” he said.

The opposition leader remarked that truth must be brought to surface even if it displeases someone. We will only accept America’s allegations if it provides proof.

He blamed the country’s foreign policy ‘failure’ over the past four years on the government’s decision to not have a dedicated separate foreign minister.

"Our foreign minister should have started today’s debate in the assembly," he argued.

Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said 22 Indian nationals were killed when the United States dropped ‘mother of all bombs’ in Afghanistan.

Sheikh Rashid underlined the need for exhibiting greater national unity to thwart nefarious designs against Pakistan, requesting Speaker Ayaz Sadiq to hold an in-camera meeting of the opposition parties in this regard.

He said Pakistan was a peace-loving country and it had nothing to do with terrorism, but Indian media was on the forefront and making efforts to malign Pakistan among comity of the nations.

QURESHI’S STATEMENT

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi appreciated the unity displayed by the government and opposition lawmakers in responding to Trump’s statement.

"Trump said that Pakistan is not doing enough in the war against terrorism, but tell me one nation that has paid a higher price of this war," Qureshi said.
