LAHORE (Dunya News) – Senior judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) Justice Asif Saeed Khosa undergoes angioplasty in Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), reported Dunya News.

Justice Khosa was shifted to PIC on Tuesday morning after he endured a heart attack. According to the hospital sources, one valve of Khosa’s heart was blocked which was obstructing the blood flow. Through the procedure of coronary angioplasty, clogged artery of Khosa’s heart was opened by placing a stent inside. The delicate procedure was carried out by PIC chairman Dr. Nadeem Hayat Malik and his team of doctors.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed visited PIC to meet Justice Khosa. According to the doctors, he is in a stable condition. Justice Asif Saeed Khosa has headed benches of historical significance in the past few years, such as the bench that sentenced Mumtaz Qadri to death and the most recent Panama case that disqualifed former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

According to American Heart Association, angioplasty opens blocked arteries and restores normal blood flow to your heart muscle. “Angioplasty is not a major surgery, it is done by threading a catheter (thin tube) through a small puncture in a leg or arm artery to the heart. The blocked artery is opened by inflating a tiny balloon in it,” an explanatory paper on their website reads.
