ISLAMABAD (Daily Dunya) – The interior ministry has directed the federal and provincial governments to guarantee strict security arrangements at significant public places and intensify intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in specific areas of the country.

The decision came by the higher security officials in the aftermath of the Lahore suicide blast that killed at least 13 people and wounded 86 others.

According to National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta), more than 5200 intelligence-based operations have been carried out in the country till date.

According to the figures, 2642 operations in Punjab, 290 in Sindh, 1240 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 645 in Balochistan, 294 in Islamabad, 24 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 65 in Azad Kashmir.

Besides this, nearly 18 lac suspects were arrested during 15 lac combing operations and 25 lac stop and search operations held in the country.

Nacta says that provinces are consistently provided intelligence.

It has asserted that the process to hire officials has been speed up after the appointment of head of Joint Intelligence Directorate (JID) and will be functional soon.

The JID would ensure efficient coordination among all intelligence agencies.
