ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - A 12-member parliamentary committee headed by Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid today (Monday) approved four names for appointment as members of the Election Commission, Dunya News reported.
The names approved by the committee include Justice (r) Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi from Punjab, Abdul Ghaffar Soomro from Sindh, Justice (r) Ms. Irshad Qaiser from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Justice (r) Shakeel Baloch from Balochistan.
The approved names will be forwarded to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif which would be followed by a formal notification for appointment of the members of the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan objected to the selection process.

He stressed that the PTI should have been taken into confidence on the appointment of EC member from Punjab.

During the meeting today, PTI leader Shireen Mazari abstained from voting on two names from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
It may be mentioned here that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had sent twelve names, three each from every province to the Speaker National Assembly for the selection of members of ECP.
Opposition leader Syed Khurshid Shah had also sent twelve names, three each from every province to the Secretary National Assembly.
