Police, health department most corrupt in KP as 681 arrests made in one year

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has made highest number of arrests in police and health department in crackdown against corruption in the province in one year.

The accountability department arrested around 681 persons in different cases in 2015 while recovered at least Rs 2,457 million.

Crackdown against corruption saw several big fish get caught in net which include special assistant to former chief minister (CM) Syed Masoom Shah among many others. One of the most blunt development came when NAB apprehended former Inspector General (IG) Malik Naveed in weapons scandal case.

The case went to trial and is underway in the court.

Inquiries were launched against former CM Amir Haider Hoti, former minister Arbab Alamgir and his wife, Asma Alamgir. Thirty different references were filed in the accountability court (AC) in 2015.

The accountability bureau also netted FATA Disaster Management Authority’s (FDMA) former director general Arshad Khan. The accused was presented before a court alleged embezzlement in funds for natural disaster affectees.

As many as nine government officials were also apprehended for alleged embezzlement in development packages announced by Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif.
