Summary Khan's outlook and enthusiasm outdo his age
LAHORE (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s former cricket captain with deadly bowling spells and opposition party’s leader, Imran Khan has turned 63 today.
23 years after he announced his retirement from the cricket world, the legend of Khan, the pacer still resides in hearts of the people.
Leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who led the longest sit-in protest in history of Pakistan against the alleged corrupt government is going strong at 63.
However, Khan’s outlook and enthusiasm outdo his age.
PTI chief had debuted in first-class cricket in 1968 at 16 years of age. The adored Pakistani ex-cricketer had led Oxford University XI team in 1974 during the time he studied there. The former skipper had also played for Sussex and Worcestershire.
Khan was given the captaincy of Pakistani team in 1982. In his career as a green shirt, Khan played 48 Test matches out of which eight were lost, 14 won while the rest ended in draw. In ODI format, Khan led the team in 139 matches out of which 77 won while 57 were lost.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, one of the biggest political parties of Pakistan was conceived by Khan in 1996. International Republican Institute s (IRI) survey stated that despite staunch opposition, PTI has become the most popular political unit in Pakistan.
It is a lesser known fact that Khan was put under house arrest in 2007 which he escaped and went on to hide for at least 11 days. The action was taken by the government after he crticised presidential election.
The ex-all rounder married Jemima Goldsmith in 1995 however, the marriage ended in 2004. Khan and Jemima have three children. PTI chief entered second marriage in 2015 which sadly also could not last and ended after a short period of ten months. Khan s ex-wife, Reham is a journalist and had interviewed him during the sit-in protest in Islamabad.
Khan is going to address PTI s youth convention in Lahore today and will land anytime now.
