Blast in Karachi's Lee market kills one, injures five

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Atleast one person was killed and five sustained injuries on Wednesday in a blast in oil shop located in Karachi’s Lee market.

The blast occurred as the campaign regarding local body polls was on the run in the area. The injured were shifted to civil hospital for medical assistance where one succumbed to his injuries.

According to police, no complaint including that of extortion was received by the owner of the affected shop however; investigation in the incident is still underway.



Police also called in Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) who thoroughly examined the place and gathered evidence.

According to BDS officials, explosives weighing 500 gram were used in the remote controlled blast whereas interrogating officer state that the blast caused by the bomb placed at roadside is likely to spread fear during the electoral campaign.

Karachi, a sprawling port city of 18 million people, has been wracked by criminal, ethnic and political violence since the 1990s but an operation by police and paramilitary forces launched in 2013 has brought murders down from a rate of seven or eight a day to two or three, along with a significant fall in street crime.
