Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the world pledged $254million aid money for Pakistan during the two sessions of United Nations General Assembly. During a press briefing after returning after attending a General Assembly session, the FM said that 72 UN member countries expressed solidarity with Pakistan and assured all-out support to combat the calamity. I went to attend the General Assembly session to make the world aware of the devastation and aftermath of deluge as the global community did not know the magnanimity of the disaster, the FM said. Qureshi told the newsmen, the world pledged $254million aid for Pakistan in the two UN sessions. He said that European Union would hold special meetings on September 11 to 12 on flood situation in the country. The minister thanked UN Chief Ban Ki-moon for convening General Assemblys sessions to apprise the world of the massive destruction the floods inflicted across Pakistan. Qureshi said that he met with the officials of many NGOs to brief them about the catastrophe.
