The meeting is discussing situation after attack on airbase camp in Peshawar.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is chairing an emergency meeting to discuss situation after terrorist attack on Badaber airbase camp early Friday.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar is also present in the meeting. The meeting is discussing overall security situation in the country.

The Prime Minister has strongly condemned the terrorist attack at the PAF camp and reiterated the resolve to continue with full zeal the mission of eliminating terrorism for which the nation has rendered so many sacrifices.

He vowed that terrorists will be rooted out from country.

On the other hand, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif has left for Peshawar where he will visit Corps Headquarters and meet with troops participating in clearance operations.

He will also visited wounded security personnel at the Combined Military Hospital.

As per initial information, seven to 10 terrorists tried to break deep in the base but troops managed to contain them and nine attackers have been killed in retaliation. At least 20 people including two army officers and eight jawans were injured in the attack.

Quick Response Forces, army commandos and local PAF troops took part in the operation.

Pakistan has been waging a major offensive against insurgent hideouts in the tribal northwest for over a year in a bid to quell an insurgency that has raged for more than a decade.

Officials say nearly 3,000 militants have been killed since the launch of the latest offensive.
