Summary Friendship with China cornerstone of Pakistan's foreign police, says Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

UFA, Russia: (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Ufa, Russia, and both the leaders vowed to strengthen the mutual ties further. PM Nawaz said on this occasion that friendship with China forms the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy, reported Dunya News.

The meeting between the two leaders was held on the occasion of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Ufa, Russia. Xi Jinping said that China wants to keep close friendship with Pakistan. He said that he awaits President Mamnoon Hussain’s visit to China.

Chinese President invited Nawaz Sharif to attend SCO session to be held in Beijing which the Prime Minister of Pakistan accepted. Nawaz said on this occasion that friendship with China was a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy.

Later, Nawaz Sharif met Afghan president Ashraf Ghani. The declaration issued after the meeting stated that the two leaders expressed satisfaction over improving relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan. PM Nawaz said that challenges need to be addressed with patience. He said that cooperation between the two countries will help improve the mutual ties.

Nawaz Sharif also invited the Afghan president to Pakistan. Afghan president is due to attend the conference of the Foreign Ministers of Turkey, Afghanistan, China and the United States of America in December.

Nawaz and Ghani agreed on continuing the Afghan reconciliation process in their meeting. Both the leaders also expressed contentment over the 7-July talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban. Afghan president said that the reconciliation process will bring peace and stability to Afghanistan.
