Summary 7,300 policemen will be performing duties during by-elections, said Secretary Election Commission
KARACHI (Dunya News) -- Secretary Election Commission Babar Yaqub said on Saturday that NA-246 by-election will be held under supervision of Rangers adding that a Ranger will be deployed in every polling station, reported Dunya News.
Talking to a press conference, Secretary Election Commission said that it is their mission to ensure free and fair elections in NA-246 adding that he had personally inspected the constituency and found conditions of the area to be normal.
Babar Yaqub told the media that voters are not allowed to bring mobile phones to the polling stations.
He further said that one Ranger will be deployed on each polling station and that every Ranger will have the authority of a first-class magistrate.
Secretary Election Commission emphasized the importance of NA-246 by-elections, saying that it will be their priority to dispatch their duties according to the constitution.
Elaborating the security measures, he said that 7,300 policemen will be performing duties during the by-elections.
Babar Yaqub said that load shedding will not take place on the day of by-elections.
Commenting on the biometric voting, he said that the Election Commission is not technically equipped to handle such a measure.
Earlier in the conference, member Election Commission Sindh Roshan Esani had also briefed media about arrangements related to by-elections.
