Karachi: Babar Chughtai arrested for allegedly patronizing land mafia
Babar Chughtai was arrested in Karachi, he is suspected of patronizing land mafia in the city
KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Former Chairman of Association of Builder and Developers (ADAB) of Pakistan Babar Chughtai has on Monday been arrested by law-enforcing agencies. He has been accused of patronizing the land mafia in the city, reported Dunya News.
According to sources, Babar Chughtai has been shifted to unknown place after arrest for investigation. He has been accused of patronizing land mafia and funding the criminals. Babar has been alleged of working for a person named Chunnu.
Meanwhile, Babar’s family-members have stated that he had been arrested from his home two days ago.
Condemning the arrest, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) declared it blatant act of reprisal. In a statement, MQM Rabita Committee stated that Babar Chughtai was a respectable businessman who has played a great role in Karachi’s progress and development. He said that Babar was arrested only because he gave funds to MQM.
Rabita Committee said that any political, business, religious or welfare organization or person could give funds to MQM and it was no crime. Rabita Committee demanded Babar’s immediate release.
