PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Process of recieving nomination papers began on Monday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Deputy Commissioners (DC) were appointed as District Returning Officers while women candidates also recieved their nomination papers from DC office, reported Dunya News.

Local body elections in KP are due to be held on 30 May for which the process of receiving nomination papers is underway.

According to the schedule issued by Election Commission, nomination papers can be submitted till 17 April after which the process of scrutinizing the papers and redressing complaints will begin which will last till 25 April.

The list of all candidates will be displayed on 7 May.

All Deputy Commissioners of districts have been appointed as District Returning Officers however the Provincial Minister for Local Government has said that the election will be held under the supervision of judiciary.

According to new Local Body Act, 327 village councils and neighborhoods have been formed in Peshawar.

Nazim and deputy Nazim will head the village and neighborhood council respectively. The candidates appeared in good spirits regarding the devolution of power in the new system.

District Returning Officers Peshawar Riaz Mahsood said that all resources will be utilized to ensure fair and free elections.

KP will hold village and neighborhood elections on non-party basis while Town Nazim and District Nazim elections will be conducted on party-basis.
