ECP announces schedule for local body election

Summary By-polls in KP and Punjab are to be held in May and November respectively.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday announced schedule of local body election.

According to the details, local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab would be held in May and November, respectively whereas by-polls in Sindh would be held in March 2016.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Sardar Raza Khan chaired the session regarding local body elections.

Interim Secretary EC, Sher Afghan, addressed the media in an in-camera briefing and told that election process would be completed by the second week of May in KP whereas all necessary measures were taken to conduct elections in Cantt area. He said final dates for the election would soon be announced.

He further told that Punjab and Sindh handed over the material required for delimitation of constituencies.

The Military Lands and Cantonments said an ordinance has been forwarded to the presidency after approval from the Law Ministry, for by-elections in cantonment.

ECP would submit a detailed response on local body elections before February 12.
