PTI workers hold protest at 18 sites in Lahore, several roads blocked

Summary PTI workers have staged sit-ins at different locations and blocked main roads.

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by Imran Khan is holding a dawn-to-dusk protest at 18 sites in Lahore today (Monday).

Hundreds of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters blocked main roads with burning tires, while other supporters including women and children staged sit-ins at different during the one-day protest.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf posted a message on the micro-blogging website Twitter: 

Government offices, public schools, and banks were open but many private businesses and shops were shut.

ROADS BLOCKED

PTI workers and lawyers have blocked GPO Chowk. On the occasion, PTI leader Ejaz Chaudhry said that no party worker would take law into his hands.

Earlier today, protestors blocked Chairing Cross outside the Punjab Assembly, Canal Bridge on Mall Road and Liberty Roundabout. PTI workers have also staged sit-in at Bhatta Chowk, blocking the main road leading towards Defense area.

 

Lahore-Kasur road has been blocked due to protest on Choungi Amarsidhu and Ferozpur Road.

Protestors also blocked Chowk Yateem Khana on Multan Road, closing the routes towards Raiwind, Mansoora and Multan Chungi.

Ravi road has been closed due to sit-in at Shahdara Chowk while roads leading towards Township, Johar Town, Faisal Town have been blocked due to protest at Akbar Chowk.

On the other hand, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has stated that the provincial government would maintain law and order at all costs in Lahore today.

He said the government will fulfill its responsibilities to protect lives and assets of the masses in any way.

Shahbaz Sharif questioned that what sort of service Imran Khan wants to deliver to the nation by jamming the cities.

PTI demands a probe into alleged fraud during the 2013 election that brought Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to power.

Khan announced on November 30 that his party would stage peaceful protests in Faisalabad, Lahore, and Karachi to "shut down" the cities for a day.

Earlier protests in Faisalabad led to clashes between protesters and police.

The planned closure - dubbed `Plan C` - is a continuation of PTI chairman Imran Khan`s push to pressure the government into carrying out an inquiry into alleged rigging in the May 2013 general election.
