Summary The gun attack took place in Bama Khel area of Tehsil Matta.

SWAT (Dunya News) – Unknown gunmen have killed local peace committee member Ashraf Khan and a policeman in Swat on Saturday.
The incident took place in Bama Khela area of Tehsil Matta.

According to police, Ashraf Khan who was also member of Awami National Party (ANP) was rushejd to Saiddu Sharif Hospital but could not survive.

Later, security forces and police contingent arrived at the scene and launched search operation in the area to nab the culprits.

Bazar Matta-Mingora road was closed for traffic after the incident.

This is not the first that a peace committee member has been targeted. Previously, several pro-government peace committee members and their relatives have been killed or attacked by the miscreants.

The killings which appear to be targeted have caused a sense of insecurity to prevail among the local peace volunteers.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan Army pushed Tehreek-e-Taliban militants out of the scenic northwestern valley with a big offensive in 2009.

Looming over Swat is the threat of Mullah Fazlullah, who heads the banned group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). It was Fazlullah who organized fighters to take the valley over in 2007. He is now based over the border in Afghanistan where he plots his fight against Pakistan.
